El Bembé (Lively Gossip)

There is music in the room—but judging by these two, there is also something very interesting to talk about.

In El Bembé, two Bomba dancers share a private exchange in the midst of movement. One leans toward the other as though delivering the latest bit of news, while her companion listens with the wonderfully composed expression of someone who may already know the whole story.

Their sweeping skirts, the barril beside them, and the lush tropical foliage place us firmly within the world of Bomba, but the painting also celebrates something delightfully universal: the conversations, laughter, observations, and yes—a little bochinche—that happen whenever people gather.

The fiery orange surrounding the women gives the scene warmth and energy, while the deep violet of their skirts grounds them with strength and presence.

El Bembé is a playful glimpse of culture beyond performance—the friendships and human moments that live between the beats.
